 History
In the early 1990's an engineer had an idea. What if we can stop consuming oil and better use the resources we have without compromising quality and reliability? That idea has become Hydrodec Group plc.
History
Hydrodec was born out of an eight year industrial research and development program implemented by Australia's Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) and the Australian power industry. CSIRO is Australia's government backed and leading industrial technology research and development organisation. Initial research was directed at the development of advanced refining technology for use with used electrical insulating oils. The research and development program was so successful that it produced a new refining process with application across the petrochemical and oil refining industries.
The technology was patented and in 2001, was rolled into a commercial licence held by Hydrodec Development Corporation (HDC). Hydrodec Development Corporation was formed with global rights to commercialise the technology and know how behind the technology. The company was initially established using venture capital funding from Virotec International, an Australian environmental technology company.
A first demonstration refining facility commenced construction in 2002. Successful start up of the demonstration facility accelerated the growth of Hydrodec ultimately resulting in the formation of Hydrodec Group plc, a company listed on the AIM in the London Stock Exchange in late 2004.
Following listing, Hydrodec acquired its Australian operating partner and built then commissioned the first Hydrodec refining facility in Young, NSW, Australia. Completion in 2006 of the first full scale facility signaled the arrival of Hydrodec in the international specialty oil market, the maturing of the Hydrodec technology and establishment within Hydrodec Group the capacity, skill base, resources and knowledge to expand internationally. International expansion commenced in earnest during late 2006.

The Hydrodec business is based upon achieving reduced dependence on finite oil resources by using low energy, innovative and highly efficient refining systems to produce worlds best quality new specialty oils and chemicals from used and by product oils and chemicals.
